Benefits of Ionic Air Purifiers

ionic air purifier

Air purifiers are installed in many homes in order to diminish the effects of allergies and eliminate contaminants such as harmful chemicals, dust, or pollen. The latest update in the world of air purification is the ionic air purifier. And there are several additional benefits that set this device apart from other, standard filter system purifiers.

But let’s deal with first things first. How do they work? Ionic purifiers distribute negative ions into the surrounding area. These ions stick to particles in the air which are positively charged. With the addition of the negative ion, the particles are too heavy to stay airborne, and they drop to the ground. With that in mind, let’s get onto the benefits.

-Without the need for filters, you stand to save a lot of money and hassle. Rather than mess with filters, all you have to do is clean the collection plate. This is easy to do, and the plates are completely reusable.

-The smallest particles caught by these devices are around .01 micron. Because the vast majority of airborne particles are larger than this, there is very little that will get through the system.

-Ionic filters are also cost effective and quiet. Some units can be noisy and disruptive, but not so with ionic air purifiers. This makes them easy on the ears and wallet.
you can make your meal a little healthier. One easy way to become more health conscious is to switch out that white rice for brown rice. The hulling process takes away most of the nutrients in rice and since brown rice doesn’t go through this process it has many more nutrients than white rice.

While only the outmost layer of the hull is removed during the processing of brown rice, the complete milling and polishing of white rice destroys 67% of vitamin B3, 80% of vitamin B1, 90% of vitamin B6, half of the magnesium, half of the phosphorous, 60% of the iron, and all of the essential fatty acids and fiber. Brown rice is also an excellent source of selenium, manganese and magnesium. The fiber content in brown rice reduces the risks of colon cancer, heart disease and helps maintain a healthy weight.

New Year’s Resolution – MORE Juicing!

Almost everyone makes New Year’s resolutions. Many of the resolutions are to lose weight, many by diet and Juiceman JM503exercise. As discussed many other times before, the best diet is healthy and easy to maintain, and of course, one in which you don’t get hungry. Juicing can accomplish your dietary goals.

Remember, the key to healthy eating is getting all the nutrients that you need and none of the “junk” products that you don’t need. The TV show “The Biggest Loser” uses a simple formula for your diet. 4-3-2-1, meaning 4 fruits and vegetables servings, 3 protein servings, 2 whole grain servings and 1 200 calorie free choice item. Notice that the top of the list is 4 fruits and vegetables. This is the single item that most diets fail on, the lack of fruits and vegetables. This item cannot be ALL fruits, you need the vegetables also.

The easiest way to get your fruits and vegetables is by juicing. Here is a simple example. If you want increased stamina and minimize muscle cramping, this juice is for you:

  • 4 carrots
  • 2 stalks celery
  • handful of fresh spinach
  • handful of fresh parsley

The use of a good juicer is a must.  An example of a good juicer is the Juiceman JM503 Juiceman Pro 3-Speed Juicer.   This juicer is a 3 speed, stainless steel juicer that is powerful enough for all your juicing needs, yet inexpensive enough for your budget.

Try juicing three times a day and you will find yourself with increased energy and weight loss.  Happy Juicing!

Next time you take out your handy Zojirushi rice cooker, think about how you can make your meal a little healthier. One easy way to become more health conscious is to switch out that white rice for brown rice. Blenders Are For Special Uses

Blenders are great for crushing ice, making smoothies, making milk shakes and also mixing drinks. However, Oster Blenderblenders cannot and do not replace juicers.

A juicer separates the juice from the fibers, skin, seeds, stems and other non-palatable items from the fruit or vegetable. The separation of the juice from the fiber means that the body can work on absorbing the nutrients present as opposed to using energy to break down the fiber.

A blender runs at high speed and in the process, especially if run too long, will take oxygen from the air and fold it into your blended item. This oxygen causes the nutrients to oxidize and therefore reduces the amount of nutrients available to you. Additionally, the heat generated by the high speed of the blades also causes the nutrients to break down.

However, all is not bad with the blenders. The fiber that exists in smoothies can help regulate the absorption of sugars into the bloodstream that is present in the blended output. Blenders are relatively quick to use as they operate at high speeds, but they are also noisy.

When you drink a blended drink make sure to ‘chew’ it before you swallow it. This is important as the chewing action releases saliva and mixes important digestive enzymes into the drink. These digestive enzymes are important in helping to try and break down the fiber contained within the drink when it enters the stomach. If you do not chew then you may encounter indigestion pains after consuming a drink produced in your blender.

As stated earlier, the blender has its uses. You should get a blender that has a glass top as opposed to plastic. Plastic scratches and tends to retain the color of the items blended. Glass is easier to clean and will last longer. You should also purchase a blender that has many speed selections. The various speeds will allow you to blend at the optimum for the particular item you are making. An excellent blender is the Oster Professional Series Blender or the Kitchen Aid Pro-Line Chefs Blender.

Sore Joints? Try Glucosamine and Chondroitin!

Glucosamine and chondroitin are part of normal cartilage. Cartilage acts as a cushion between the bones in a Glucosamine and Chondroitinjoint.

The cartilage in joints is made up of two molecules called Glucosamine and chondroitin. Your joints undergo a constant process of breakdown and repair. However, to be properly repaired, the building blocks of cartilage must be present and available. The theory behind using the glucosamine and chondroitin joint supplements is that more of the cartilage building blocks will be available for cartilage repair.

A number of short time studies, e.g. one or two months, have indicated that patients experienced more pain reduction when taking glucosamine and chondroitin than patients receiving a placebo. Research also indicates that glucosamine and chondroitin can help restore cartilage.

There are also some studies that indicate glucosamine may help as much as ibuprofen in relieving symptoms of osteoarthritis, particularly in the knee, with fewer side effects. It appears that glucosamine and chondroitin, in combination or separately, have few side effects.

So…if you have sore joints or osteoarthritis, a compound such as Source Naturals Hyaluronic Joint Complex with Glucosamine and Chondroitin may help rebuild your joints and also relieve pain.

Watermelon salsa? That’s right, I said it. It might sound off the wall, but this recipe is makes some excellent salsa; it’s both tangy and sweet. In addition to the ingredients, you will need a quality KitchenAid blender and some standard measuring cups.Watermelon Salsa

Ingredients:

8-10 medium tomatillos
1 onion, minced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 jalapeno peppers
2 tsp. mild chili powder
1 cup tomato sauce
1 cup watermelon chunks
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

First remove the skin, rinse, and quarter your tomatillos.  Next address your jalapenos by seeding and chopping them into small chunks.  Heat oil in a large sauté pan over high heat, and add the onion sautéing for a few minutes.  Next add the tomatillos, garlic, and jalapenos and sauté until the onions begin to brown.  Reduce the heat and sprinkle chili powder in the pan.  Stir in the tomato sauce and let simmer.  Cool for a few minutes, then place the mixture in a blender, and add the watermelon and puree to desired consistency.  Blenders often have different speeds; be sure watch the salsa while it blends so it’s not too thick or too thin.  Serve with tortilla chips.  Great for parties!

Why Use A Facial Cleanser?

Facial CleanserThis is an easy question to answer…your skin is your first line of defense against toxins, bacteria, dirt and any pollutants in the air around us. Healthy skin, especially of the face, is always free of blemishes, radiant and, of course, the least susceptible to infection. So skin cleansers or facial cleansers are healthy for you.

As time passes and due to factors like pollution, climatic changes, hormonal changes, etc skin will start showing signs of being affected. Therefore it is important to provide protection in the form of cleansing and toning. Replenishing lost nutrients from skin is important too.

Choosing facial cleanser should be done very carefully. Try to find the one which is not just mild. Rather it is full of nutrition. There are several organic cleansers with extracts of grains, fruits and natural products. These can provide your skin with natural nutrients like the vitamins and the oil.

With proper cleansing and toning you can avoid irritating skin problems like early wrinkling, dark spots, etc. mild facial cleansers are useful not just for those with healthy skin. Those with sensitive skin too can use these products for minimizing reactions from use of these related products

Is Using Weights Healthy?

posted by Dennis @ 10:54 PM
Tuesday, December 15, 2009

This question comes up frequently and mostly by women but it also applies to men. Using weights is very Weightshealthy for you and also a change of pace from other exercises. As previously discussed the best overall exercise regimen is using a rebounder. Using weights is a good break from using the rebounder.

Weights help you lose weight, make you strong, will actually reduce your chances of getting injured and are useful for arthritis. You begin with light weights and increase the weights over time. If you merely keep using the light weights all the time, you have to keep increasing the number of repetitions in order for your muscles to get any benefit. Every time you weight train the muscle tears slightly. When it re-builds you get muscle growth. This muscle growth happens a lot faster when you use heavy weights.

Weights will not bulk you up. You actually need huge quantities of protein and also specific training to bulk up. However, if you do find yourself increasing your bulk, just cut down on your weight routines and increase your cardio.

Women need to also use heavy weights; it reduces fat and shows muscle tone. Recent studies have shown that arthritis sufferers who lifted weights actually reduced their joint pain. By strengthening the muscles, they were able to cushion and protect the joints during impact activities like walking. And don’t forget…most physical therapy programs incorporate strength training to help rehab a multitude of injuries, which just proves that lifting weights can make a difference in getting better and having a better quality of life.

Use A Moisturizer For Health

Argan OilDo you want soft, radiant skin? Of course you do. The question is how do you get and keep your skin soft. The answer is a moisturizer! A moisturizer is a substance that helps your skin trap moisture in the cells, specifically located in the face. It helps keep the skin moist and protected all day.

Keeping the skin cells full of moisture keeps them from drying out, cracking and splitting. Hydrated skin not only looks and feels healthy, it keeps you healthy. Dry cracked skin can allow bacteria and other toxins to penetrate.

A moisturizer should match your body…by match I mean compatible. A moisturizer that causes a rash, irritation or inflammation is not healthy and obviously not compatible. Moisturizers are often composed of humectants like hyaluronic acid, sorbitol, glycerin, or urea. They work by causing the skin to have an affinity or attraction to water. Some other moisturizers, usually of the heavy type, are composed of petrolatum, mineral oil, shea butter and cetyl alcohol. These types of moisturizers act as a skin softener as they produce a protective layer.

Sometimes moisturizers contain sunscreen for protection from the sun. It makes the skin feel hydrated and not parched.

You should avoid moisturizers that have many synthetic ingredients such as perfumes, coloring agents, etc. These types of moisturizers can cause the very damage that you are trying to prevent. Organic moisturizers are the best types to buy. An example of a great organic skin moisturizer is Argan Oil.

Coffee, The New Health Drink

The newest health drink is coffee. That’s right…coffee. Harvard researchers have analyzed data on 126,000 Keurig B60people for over 18 years and have concluded that drinking one to three cups of caffeinated coffee daily can reduce type 2 diabetes risk by single digits. If you drink six or more cups of coffee men’s risk was reduced by 54% and women’s by 30% over people who did not drink coffee.

Now I already drink coffee, but with these results I don’t feel bad about drinking coffee. There are many types of coffee makers but the one I personally prefer is the Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single Cup. The reasons are simple; I am making coffee for one. Each and every cup is fresh brewed, not sitting in the pot for an hour while I eat my breakfast. You merely insert a K cup (a pre-measured amount of coffee in a sealed container) into the coffee maker, add water to the tank and voila…fast, great coffee. Also, it makes tea and hot chocolate, all in an instant. Cleanup is non-existent. Throw the K cup in the trash. Rinse out the tank periodically, this doesn’t mean every time and you are done.

Faster and cheaper than Starbucks and all in an instant…no waiting in line. Enjoy and remember you are reducing your risk of colon cancer, liver cirrhosis risk, and gallstones.
